QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

A little clarity
before you begin.

Find practical answers about preparing a record, using chat and returning to your conversation.

What should I have ready for a first conversation?
Getting started

Start with a short description of your work, a link to the original if one is available, and the exact page or account you want to discuss. Dates and the outcome you are looking for are useful too. The case planner helps you organize these details into a message.

Can I contact the team without email?
Getting started

Yes. Use the Chat with us button on any page. A name is optional. Send your message and keep the same browser to return for replies. The chat is a message inbox; it does not promise an immediate response.

Does opening a chat submit a copyright notice?
Getting started

No. Chat is a way to describe a situation and ask questions. Neither the chat nor the case planner automatically sends a notice, contacts a platform or begins an enforcement action.

Which links are most useful?
Evidence

Include the complete URL of the original work and the exact URL of the use you found. A specific post, video, listing or page is more helpful than a platform homepage. If there are several links, explain which one is the original and which ones need review.

What can I organize before speaking to someone?
Evidence

Keep the original files, publication details, relevant agreements or licenses, and a dated record of the material you found together. Record the context rather than just a cropped image. The Copyright Guide describes the existing evidence-first approach in more detail.

Can I upload files through this chat?
Evidence

This chat currently accepts text. You can include links and describe the files you have. Keep your originals in your own storage. If more material is needed, ask the team how to share it.

Can you promise that a platform will remove content?
Process

No outcome is promised here. Platform decisions depend on the material, the information submitted and the applicable process. The enforcement overview explains how ownership, evidence, the reporting channel and follow-up fit together.

What if I have already contacted the platform?
Process

Include the platform name, the date you submitted the report, the reference number if you have one, and a summary of the response. That helps the conversation start with what has already happened.

Is the planner a legal assessment?
Process

No. The planner organizes your own information into a draft message. It does not determine ownership, assess a defense, give legal advice or decide whether a notice should be sent.

Where do I find a reply?
Using chat

Return to this website in the same browser and open Chat with us. A badge shows unread replies while the page is open. Browser storage keeps access to your conversation; clearing it or changing devices can prevent you from returning to that chat.

What happens when I prepare a plan?
Using chat

Your answers become a draft that you can review and copy. Open chat with this plan places that draft in the chat composer when it is empty. You decide whether to press Send. An existing chat draft is kept so that your writing is not overwritten.

What if my connection drops while sending?
Using chat

The chat keeps your unsent text and shows an error if delivery cannot be confirmed. Retry from the same browser. A successful message appears in the conversation after the service confirms it.
